Recently I had the opportunity to spend some time in Rhode Island, prior
to arriving I was reading The Providence Visitor, Rhode Islands Catholic
Weekly Newspaper. I saw the pictures of 6 Priest, all being ordained on
June 23, 2001 at the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul in Providence.
One in particular jumped out at me, Father Michael J. Najim. The Lord
directed me to pray for him. I knew their was something special about this
priest. Then when I arrived in Rhode Island, that first Sunday I was there
we woke up late and had to find a later Mass to attend, my wife Joanne pointed
us in the direction of St. Pauls in North Scituate. We were seated for Mass and
the celebrating Priest was none other than Fr. Najim. His Homily was beautiful
at this his first Mass at his new parish. In a very humble manner he delivered
a message to his new family, his church a message that spoke of God's Love. I
remember his main thought was that God sent him to St. Philip's Church, Greenville,
Rhode Island) to bring Holiness to this church family. What a way to start your
relationship with your flock, being up front about your mission as a Priest in
service to his church. There were five other newly ordained priest in the Diocese of Providence and I would ask you to pray also for their vocations. Fr. Michael A. Colello, Fr. Mark S. Kupka, Fr. Daniel J. Sweet, Fr. Kris M. Maluski and Fr. Edward J. Wilson Jr. I would appreciate your prayers also for our most recently ordained priest in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Fr. Vince Nyman of St. Elizabeth Anne Seaton Parish. Father Michael Joseph Najim grew up in Westerly, a son of Michael and Gloria (Curzio) Najim. He graduated from Westerly High School in 1992 and received his Bachelor of Arts in theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Steubenville, Ohio, in 1996. Father Najim studied for the Diocese of Providence at St. John Seminary in Brighton, Mass. He has served as a summer seminarian in St. Mary of the Bay Parish in Warren, St. Matthew Parish in Cranston and attended the International Institute for Culture in Puebla, Mexico, for Spanish studies. Father Najim’s Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated on June 24, at 2:30 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Parish in Westerly.
